The Uni Cycle club (road) is based at the University of Queensland in Brisbane Australia. The club enjoys an enviable reputation as one of Australia’s leading clubs and has produced a number of Olympic, Commonwealth and National Champions over the years. For more information about the club click here.
Anyone can join the UNICC, you don't have to be a student. We have a range of members from elite to masters with a large number of social riders in between. Riders of all abilities are welcome. Joining a club has a number of benefits including licencing from Cycing Queensland (allowing you to race and also providing some insurance cover), training, coaching, people to ride with, a lifestyle and a social network. UNICC Members Benefits:
- Group Coaching and Training
We have organised rides on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the UQ campus. Our club coach provides a program to go for one hour, from 6am to 7am. The training program changes every week depending on the time of year and what events are coming up. We meet at the old Dutton Park Ferry stop on College Rd on the University campus at 6am in Summer and 6.15am in winter. We train for an hour and then go to coffee.
- Individual Coaching and Training
From time to time we offer courses for beginner cyclists. We also have accredited coaches to provide programs and advice for individual cyclists looking to improve their performance.
- Club Racing
The club races every 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the month at a dedicated criterium course at Nundah. We leave the Regatta Hotel at 6am to start at about 6.30am. There are normally three grades each week that cater from beginner to elite. This racing is competitive but for training purposes. It's free to race but you have to be a club member (licenced non-club members can race on invitation only).
- Clothing
The club also provide subsidised club clothing, which is available from our bike shop sponsor, Planet Cycles.
- Social rides
Every Friday the club meets at the Indooroopilly Railway Station (East Side) at 6.30 for a River Loop followed by coffee at QUT Merlos. This ride is suitable for all levels of cyclist and is probably the most appropriate ‘first’ ride if you are thinking of joining the club. There are other organised social rides that are usually organised on the club email list.
- Track Racing
The club also has a strong track focus where we have won many state titles.
- Tours & Big Rides
The club usually organises a tour or two each year including an Easter Tour in Northern NSW and a tour of the Tour Down Under cycle race in Adelaide in January. The club also conducts a number of “Big Rides”. These are typically long rides through the beautiful scenery of South East Queensland. These are purely social and there are various meeting points along the way if you prefer a shorter ride.
